KNOXVILLE, TN — The beginning of 2019 has seen women take the helm in historic numbers all over the United States. There are more than 100 women sworn into congress and the legislature than any time in history. All over the country on every level, women and minorities are being sworn in as judges, school board leaders, senators and legislatures. The unions  of America also have experienced a first in this new wave of leadership.

As 2019 began, The National Alliance of Postal and Federal Employees; a 105 year old union, formed by 35 black railway clerks in 1913 in Stone Mountain Tennessee to prevent the elimination of blacks from the mail service; swore in Janice Fisher Robinson as its first female national president.

The NAPFE or the ALLIANCE as it has been known for over 100 years is the first industrial union in the United States. Thru its circle of protection, the Alliance works to eliminate injustice and discrimination in the federal service. The union is an independent labor union with its headquarters in Washington DC with members in all fifty states, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

President Robinson began her career with the Postal Service in 1981 and for 38 years, has faithfully served as an Alliance member dedicated to fighting discrimination on every level. Along with the mantra of the union “ Ad Mortem Fidelis” , which means  Faithful Unto Death; she is also a proud member of the Samuel Council Chapter 555th Parachute Infantry Association  aka, “Triple Nickel” where she and other troopers provide 44 scholarships yearly for students from single parent homes.

For information on the Alliance the web site is https://www.napfe.com, or headquarters@napfe.org.

    Headquarters contact number is 202-939-6325
