Dr. Alvin Singh M.D., a decorated U.S. Army veteran, distinguished obstetrician-gynecologist, and global humanitarian, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on October 24, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born September 5, 1945, in New York City, Dr. Singh dedicated his life to healing, teaching, and service. A proud alumnus of Central State University and Meharry Medical College, he went on to build a remarkable medical career spanning more than three decades across the United States and abroad.
Dr. Singh served as a Captain and Special Forces Medic in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam conflict, earning military honors for his courage and lifesaving work in helicopter rescue operations. His service to others extended far beyond his military years — from leading medical missions in various countries.
As a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., he took great pride in mentoring younger fraternity brothers and entrepreneurs, embodying the fraternity’s values of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Singh; father James Robinson;  children Tanya Singh, Terika Dean, and Alvin Singh II, son and daughter-in-law, Alexis Dean and Sherry-Lee Singh; his beloved grandchildren Aysha Dean, Jaylen Singh, Alexis Dean II, Alijah Dean, and Johari Singh; siblings Linda Singh and niece Verita Singh-Lee; Lilian Singh, Elsa Grenage, and Carmen Knox;  and many godchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father Mahadeo Singh, mother Queen Robinson and grandchildren Luke and Karisa Singh.
A memorial service will be announced in the coming days to celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who devoted every chapter of it to service — in uniform, in medicine, and in faith.
