MDHA to Open Elderly Project-Based Voucher Waiting List at Noon Sept. 19, 2024

Nashville, Tenn. (TN Tribune)-The Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) will accept online-only applications for an elderly project-based voucher waiting list starting at noon Sept. 19 and continuing through 3 p.m. Sept. 26, 2024. Depending on the number of applications received, the waiting list may remain open beyond Sept. 26, 2024.

In order to qualify for elderly housing, the head of household or spouse must be at least 62 years old.

This PBV waiting list is NOT on a first-come, first-served basis, so as long as you apply during the waiting list period, you have a chance of being placed near the top of the waiting list.

Located at 1205 Robinson Road in Old Hickory, Robinson Flats is an elderly property that features one- and two-bedroom apartments. In order to qualify for elderly housing, applicants must be 62 or older and have an adjusted income at or below 50 percent of the area median income.

Applications will be accepted online only and can be submitted 24 hours a day during the open application period at www.nashville-mdha.org. Once the waiting list opens, applicants will be able to locate the application by clicking the button on the large yellow banner at the top of the home page that says Apply Now for Housing or clicking Apply for Housing under the Renters tab on the home page. The application process takes less than 5 minutes to complete. Applicants will need to register a new username and password and have a valid email address. Once an application is submitted, applicants will receive an email confirming that the application was submitted successfully. Within 30 days, applicants will receive a follow-up email confirming whether the pre-application has been accepted and placed on the waiting list or rejected.

Once the waiting list closes, an electronic lottery will be conducted, and pre-applications will be randomly assigned a number. The pre-applications will then be placed on the PBV waiting list in order based on the assigned lottery number.

For anyone needing access to a computer or assistance in completing an online application, a limited number of computers will be available along with MDHA staff at the MDHA Rental Assistance Office located at 302 Foster St., Nashville, TN 37207, from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, as well as from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 24. Applicants who are 62 years or older may also call the MDHA information line at 615-782-3960 between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays during the open enrollment period for a representative to assist by taking their information over the phone and completing the online application on their behalf.

Applicants may also visit public libraries to access a computer. All 21 Nashville Public Library locations have public access computers, and neither an appointment nor a library card are necessary to use them. Applicants can visit the library’s website to find the location closest to them.

Similar to the Tenant-Based Voucher Program, the PBV program provides low-and moderate-income households with monthly rental assistance. However, PBV assistance is tied to particular units rather than to the family. Eligible families only receive assistance while living in the PBV unit. MDHA selects families from the PBV waiting lists and refers them to the owner of the PBV unit to fill their vacancies.
