Nashville, Tenn.-Metro Water Services notified customers of a 2.6% rate increase effective January 1, 2025.  The increase was seen referenced in December billing statements. Nashville Electric Service rates went up in October to cover a 2.9% increase from TVA along with their “normal” rate adjustments to cover equipment. NES is recommending residents sign up for “balanced billing” using their online form.  Residents needing heat bill help can also contact Metro Action Commission.

Brenton Wood, known for the Oogum Boogum Song, has died at 83 years old. Wood’s manager Manny Gallegos confirmed the musician had died from natural causes. Gallegos claimed to Variety that Wood said, just before his death, ‘Catch you on the rebound,’ a reference to his 1967 song. Born Alfred Jesse Smith, the singer signed with Double Shot Records in 1967.

Beginning Jan. 10, 2025, new or returning Tennessee residents who currently have a driver license from California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Nevada, Oklahoma, Vermont or West Virginia must present a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from their former state when applying for a Tennessee license. Individuals from these eight must obtain an MVR from their former state before applying for a Tennessee license or ID. One of Nashville’s newest schools honored its namesake Thursday by planting a tree for her. Ivanetta H. Davis Early Learning Center planted the tree on a hillside on its Bordeaux campus in memory of Ivanetta H. Davis, who served as an MNPS teacher and longtime elementary school principal. Davis, who was 100 when she died in 2013, was also a founding charter member of the Nashville chapter of The Links, Incorporated, a national service organization that helped to put together the event.
