NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former Mayor of Nashville Karl Dean has announced his decision to run for Tennessee Governor as a Democrat in 2018. If elected he would be the first statewide Democrat to win an election in Tennessee since 2006. As Nashville’s mayor Dean served two-terms in a non-partisan role. Dean has presented himself as a pro-business moderate who wants to focus on education and jobs. “A good job and a great education are not rural or urban issues, they are Tennessee issues,” Dean said. The campaign will begin by visiting 17 Tennessee counties that have been identified as economically distressed by the Tennessee Department of…

NASHVILLE, TN — In Tennessee, outdated insurance policies are making it difficult and sometimes impossible for cancer patients to receive the treatment their doctors determine to be the best option. Tennessee is only one of eight states that does not equalize the patient cost for receiving anti-cancer medication like chemotherapy, regardless of whether it is delivered orally or intravenously. This prevents cancer patients from taking full advantage of today’s innovative medical advancements. Reps. Brenda Gilmore (D-Nashville), Mike Stewart (D-Nashville) and Sen. Steve Dickerson (R-Nashville) are co-sponsoring SB0922/HB1059 that aims to reduce barriers to access for cancer patients and would mean that…

In 2012, seat belts saved…
Do not be distracted. We have become so obsessed with the lies, misuses of power and rhetoric from the White House we have lost sight of some of the real issues. America’s infrastructure, which used to be the envy of the world, is falling apart and we have a lot of work to do to put it back together. Instead of worrying about repeal and replacing the Affordable Care Act, the government needs to worry about repairing and replacing our depleting roads, out of date power grid and crumbling dams. Scientists anticipate the changing weather patterns associated with climate change…
The all-new 2017 S90 is Volvo’s luxury 4-door, 5-seat flagship sedan. It takes cues from the success of the award-winning XC90 SUV and raises the bar with stunning Scandinavian design, a sumptuous interior and a powerful four-cylinder Drive-E engine. But the Volvo S90 is also making headlines on this side of the pond too. It’s the first car in the United States to offer semi-autonomous driving technology as standard. Two world-first safety technologies will also come as standard. The “Large Animal Detection” can automatically stop the car to avoid or mitigate a collision while Run-Off Road Mitigation can detect if…
By Keena Day NASHVILLE, TN — Being targeted as a black driver is hotly debated. Angry words are heard. They’ve increased here because Jocques Clemmons was killed running from a traffic stop. “We are here tonight because of injustice,” Joanie Evans said Feb. 16 while opening a community briefing by Gideon’s Army to discuss its “Driving While Black” study. “We are here tonight to end business as usual.” Some 44 years ago, the Nashville Branch of the NAACP persuaded officials to exhume a police shooting victim and proved he was shot in the back. Now, Dr. Charles Kimbrough, president of…
By Peter White NASHVILLE, TN – Neil Gorsuch will go to Capitol Hill next month where Senate Democrats lack the votes to block his confirmation to the Supreme Court. While the outcome is predictable the Gorsuch nomination didn’t begin that way. It unfolded a bit like a James Bond movie and a bit like the reality TV show, “The Apprentice”. The President’s pick was secretly driven down a mountain road in Colorado and he boarded a military plane that took him to Washington where he spent the night at a friend’s house. One of the other three judges on the…
