Dear EditorAmericans like to call this the greatest nation the world has ever known. Let’s remember what made it great. America became great because she granted land to most of her early citizens. With land, individuals and families were assured of never, or rarely, staying in debt. Being credit-worthy meant being free. The land contained resources—water, minerals, timber, transit rights, and sub-parcels—that could be sold when needed to cover debts. In time, land became available to all to a degree. America also became great because of the practices of our ancestors. Those whose blood we have in us were animated by…
TN Tribune—April is alcohol awareness month which means many organizations across the nation increase their already significant efforts to educate the public and raise cognizance about alcoholism, its causes, effects, and proper treatment. Professionals under excess stress such as police officers have been studied and correlations have been found between the stress of fitting in socially with coworkers and drinking. We also know that college drinking can be disastrous for young students away…

By Bill Carey I don’t believe in ghosts, never have. But there was a time when Old Stone Fort, in Coffee County, was said to be haunted. At first glance, Old Stone Fort appears to be nothing more than a short wall around a big field that is flanked by small two rivers – the Duck and Little Duck. But the wall happens to be very old, between 1,500 and 2,000 years old, during the Woodland Era. This is the same era in which Pinson Mounds was built in present-day Madison County, and it’s a mysterious era. When settlers began…

By Thomas L. Knapp On April 6, hundreds of protesters convened outside the Walt Disney Company’s headquarters in Burbank, California. Their message: Boycott Disney.Disney’s having a moment at the center of the latest culture war dust-up, with the allied forces of Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” base and the old “religious right” arrayed against an equally motley crew of something they call the “radical woke left.”Under pressure from the latter, Disney spoke out against Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law, a bit of fentanyl-laced red marketing meat tested on the former’s support base there, and now spreading to other…
