An Atlanta restaurant has apologized to NBA legend Dominique Wilkins after he claimed that he was turned away from the eatery because of the color of his skin. The former professional basketball player, 61, took to Twitter on Saturday to allege that Le Bilboquet, a French bistro in Atlanta, refused to serve him because he is black. Wilkins, who played for the Atlanta Hawks and was a nine-time NBA All-Star, claimed that he was told there were no seats available, before being informed he wasn’t dressed ‘fashionably acceptable’. Wilkins said he was wearing ‘sporty casual’ – with ‘casual pants,’ a red shirt and sneakers. He said…
Nashville, TN–An old drama with a new cast, Jim Crow 2.0 is performing across the nation, and Tennessee has joined the ranks of Texas, Georgia, Arkansas, South Dakota, West Virginia and Arizona as one of the leading characters. Along with voter suppression efforts in many states, there is now a rampant, diabolical movement that seeks to support the script that “America is not a racist country.” This whitewashed narrative attempts to erase facts from American history by eliminating the study and use of materials like the Pulitzer Prize winning 1619 Project and training about bias, white privilege, white supremacy, and…
The Nation Must Awake is Mary E. Jones Parrish’s first-person account of the 1921 Tulsa race massacre, which she compiled along with the recollections of several dozen others. With meticulous attention to detail that transports readers to those fateful days, Parrish documents the magnitude of the loss of human life and property in Tulsa’s Black community. Spurred by word that a young Black man was about to be lynched for stepping on a white woman’s foot, a three-day riot erupted that saw the death of hundreds of Black Oklahomans and the destruction of the Greenwood district, a prosperous, primarily Black…

By Ben Jealous I am eager to see a brilliant Black woman serving as a U.S. Supreme Court justice. I hope to celebrate her swearing-in later this year. If you’re thinking, “Did I miss something?” the answer is no, there is no vacancy on the Court right now. But there has been talk that Justice Stephen Breyer, who is 82 years old, might step down after the current Supreme Court term ends in June. Some activists and legal scholars are encouraging Breyer to step down now. That would give President Joe Biden a chance to fulfill his campaign promise to name a…
By Emil Guillermo President Joe Biden has given May a new name. It’s no longer Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, as proclaimed by Obama in 2009. And it’s definitely not Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, as proclaimed by Jimmy Carter in 1978. It’s Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Month, as proclaimed by Biden on the last day of April this year. That’s our new umbrella. A big one, incorporating everyone. From the East Bay’s Rocky Johnson, the father of Dwayne the Rock, an African American/Samoan American. To Vallejo’s Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, a/k/a H.E.R., the African American Filipino of Grammy-…
With so much coming out about discrimination and abuse of authority in the Military it is surprising that Shaw Air Force Base continues their deplorable behavior against its Civilian Federal workforce. Hill AFB came under fire about the EEO abuses. I believe this may be rampant behavior throughout the Air Force. Reuters initially contacted me to do a story regarding the malfeasance and discrimination at Shaw and what happens to DoD civilians, but decided the impact would be better to focused on the military members. They never came back to us. We are more than 10 people that have or…

In overwhelming numbers, young people believe national service can be part of one’s civic duty (87%), help them solve problems in their communities (86%), and enable them to gain real world experience before entering an…
