By Juan WilliamsOpinion Contributor WASHINGTON, DC — Twenty-five years ago, novelist Toni Morrison famously labeled Bill Clinton as “the first Black president.” The first actual Black president, Barack Obama, would come later. But Morrison’s memorable one-liner still gets laughs. It was a smart way to say that Clinton broke new ground by elevating Black leaders and policies that helped Black people. By Morrison’s standard, President Joe Biden is our nation’s third Black president. But Biden’s 2024 campaign is worried about getting Black voters to the polls. National (TN Tribune)-Women make up 51% of our population, yet there are only a handful of states whose legislatures reflect that with fair representation: Nevada and Arizona state Senates are more than 50% women, as are Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico state House delegations. Vote Run Lead Action, the 501(c4) arm of the country’s largest nonprofit training resource for women to run for political office and win, believes it is well past time to see women as the majority of our elected officials. The organization’s goal is nothing short of women holding 51% of…

In this blog post, we’re taking a look at the many forms this economic exploitation has taken throughout American history and what they teach about the issues we face today. Original Sin Let’s go back to the 17th century when American colonies began codifying racialized “slave codes,” laws that stated, among other things, that anyone whose mother is a slave shall be relegated to slavery for…
