Freeman, the sole owner of Nashville Scene and Nashville Post parent company FW Publishing, has been replaced at Freeman Webb Company by son Bob Freeman, who is a member of the state House of Representatives. MEMPHIS, TN (TN Tribune) — Janet Hooks, a special advisor to the Shelby County Clerk and former Memphis City Councilwoman, passed away Oct. 10 at 70. Hooks was appointed to her position in Shelby County government in early April. Hooks served on the Memphis City Council for 16 years and also served in Mayor AC Wharton’s administration as the Director of Parks and Neighborhoods. Nashville, Tenn. (TN Tribune)–The investigation is continuing into Monday night’s fatal police shooting inside the bedroom of a home at 2937 Split Oak Trail in Antioch. Joshua Kersey, 30, was shot by an officer as Kersey struggled with a housemate he had been holding hostage at knifepoint. South Precinct Officer Cole Ranseen breached the bedroom door with other officers after they heard the struggle.  The officers had attempted to negotiate with Kersey through the closed bedroom door for some 40 minutes.  Kersey’s sister initially called 911 and reported that he took the keys to her vehicle while intoxicated and drove…

By Adrian Sainz A Tennessee judge said Friday she is ending a conservatorship agreement between former NFL player Michael Oher and a Memphis couple who took him in when he was in high school. Shelby County Probate Court Judge Kathleen Gomes said she is terminating the agreement reached in 2004 that allowed Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy to control Oher’s finances. Oher signed the agreement when he was 18 and living with the couple as he was being recruited by colleges as a star high school football player. Gomes said she was not dismissing the case.
