Nashville, TN (TN Tribune)–About 260,000 customers across Memphis and parts of Shelby County remain under a boil water advisory following last week’s unprecedented winter weather conditions. MLGW spokesperson Gale Jones Carson said the company hopes the issue will be fixed in a few days, but could not give a time that the advisory would end. Residents are asked to keep water use to just the essentials. Residents should not be washing their cars, Carson said. MLGW says things continue to improve with the water issues in Memphis and Shelby County, but the boil water advisory remains in effect until further…
Nashville, TN (TN Tribune)–On February 9, Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West became the first Ascension hospital in the country and the only medical facility in Tennessee to offer intracoronary brachytherapy, a procedure that helps improve chest pain in patients with stents that have re-narrowed (sometimes called “collapsed”) and reduces the chance of them narrowing again in the future. Two patients from two different southeastern states were treated at West on the day that the technology became available. With this minimally invasive technique, the cardiologist accesses the patient’s narrowed artery with a catheter and exposes problematic scar tissue to small amounts of therapeutic…

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Tennessee’s Senate on Monday advanced legislation that would allow the governor to issue an executive order requiring schools to offer in-person learning. The GOP-dominant chamber easily passed the measure on a 27-5 vote, with only Democratic senators opposed. The bill comes as Republican leaders have lobbed criticisms against Shelby and Davidson counties _ the state’s most populous counties with Democratic strongholds _ after they declined to provide an in-person schooling option for months amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While both counties have since reopened in-person teaching, GOP lawmakers want to ensure that the governor can intervene when…

WASHINGTON — Five hundred candles glowed around President Joe Biden as he stood outside the White House in a moment of silence to honor the lives of the more than 500,000 Americans who have died from COVID-19. “Today we mark a truly heartbreaking milestone: 500,071 dead,” Biden said during remarks in the Cross Hall of the White House before the moment of silence. “That’s more Americans who have died in one year in this pandemic than in World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War combined. That’s more lives lost to this virus than any other nation on…
(TN Tribune)–Walt Carr, 88, of Columbia, has been drawing cartoons for some 50 years.
