According to a release, Frederiksen’s responsibilities include university fundraising, enrollment management, corporate relations and career development. Frederiksen assumed the role of vice president of institutional advancement in 2016. Since then, fundraising has increased “dramatically” year over year, culminating in a record $10.7 million for the previous fiscal year, the release notes. NASHVILLE, TN — For the first time in its history, the Nashville Minority Business Center will recognize two longstanding African American-owned companies as Green Book Legacy Award recipients. These two businesses were listed in the Green Book in the 1960s among more than 1,900 businesses that were owned by African Americans and/or were deemed safe for travelers and residents of color across the country. Barbara Hillary, the first African American woman to reach both the North and South Pole, has died. She was 88. Hillary, then 75, reached the North Pole on April 23, 2007, after skiing there from a location where she had been dropped off by a helicopter. Hillary was so excited about her accomplishment, she removed her gloves and suffered frostbite on some of her fingers, reported the Seattle Times.
