NASHVILLE, TN — Mayor John Cooper announced Tuesday that teachers and support staff will get a 3% raise beginning in January. He wants to make it permanent but it’s not clear how given the state of Metro finances. “I hope this announcement brings a little piece of mind as teachers head into a much deserved Thanksgiving holiday season,” Cooper said. Two alternate realities played out in Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle’s courtroom: one reality-based, the other a blanket denial of any wrong-doing with the soccer stadium deal at the Fairgrounds. Jackson recently and formally announced the “True Blue Pathway” partnership agreement between the university and college. Increased expenses without a corresponding increase in revenue has created a deficit over the years. To make up the deficit Metro has been spending off of its savings (fund balance).
