Keith, who decided many of the nation’s most important school desegregation, employment discrimination, and government surveillance cases, passed away this morning at the age of 96. Before her passing in 2007, Judge Keith was married for 53 years to Dr. Rachel Boone Keith. The couple raised three daughters together: Cecile, Debbie, and Gilda. MURFREESBORO, TN — MTSU’s Student Food Pantry received a significant helping hand in replenishing its stock this week thanks to a friendly competition among the university’s fraternities and sororities. This spring’s recent Greek Week food drive collected 7,764 nonperishable items and $2,084.50 in funds to help ongoing operations of the pantry, which is free to MTSU students in need and has seen increased usage since its opening several years ago. The House passed it last week by a vote of 71-26. The bill needs Governor Lee’s signature to become law. Lee told the Associated Press last week that he hadn’t made up his mind about it yet. NASHVILLE, TN — Vanderbilt University Board of Trust Chairman Bruce Evans announced Friday he has appointed a search committee related to the effort to replace soon-to-depart Chancellor Nick Zeppos. The future chancellor will be VU’s ninth to serve with the title. Zeppos recently announced his plans to step down as chancellor, effective Aug. 15, following 11 years of service in the role.
