Columbia, TN – The City of Columbia announced two proclamations during this past weekend’s Fruit Teaser event: proclaiming Columbia the “Fruit Tea Capital of the World” and designating Fruit Tea as the official drink of Columbia. The proclamations were presented by Mayor Chaz Molder during the Fruit Teaser event hosted by Columbia Main Street on Saturday, September 12.
The proclamations recognize Columbia’s longstanding connection to Southern Fruit Tea, a tradition that has been part of the community for generations. Fruit Tea remains a popular part of local gatherings and is proudly served by restaurants, businesses, families and community organizations throughout Columbia.
“Proclaiming Columbia the ‘Fruit Tea Capital of the World’ and designating Fruit Tea as the official drink of Columbia is a fun way to recognize a tradition that has been part of our community for generations,” said Mayor Chaz Molder. “It’s a tradition that is already a part of who we are, and these proclamations give us a chance to celebrate it.”
The Fruit Teaser event brought the community together with music, art, entertainment and activities centered around Columbia’s signature beverage. The event also provided a preview of the city’s next major Fruit Tea celebration.
The inaugural Fruit Tea Festival will be held Saturday, June 26, 2027, at Riverwalk Park. The festival is being planned on a broader scale than many of Columbia’s traditional community events, with plans for a notable line-up of live musical entertainment, an expansive selection of craft vendors, food trucks, a fruit tea tasting competition and more. The regional draw of the event will create a new tourism opportunity for Columbia while generating greater economic impact for restaurants, shops and other businesses throughout the community.
