Vocalist Glenn Jones has enjoyed success in three different idioms. Jones, who’ll be appearing at City Winery July 6, got his start in the gospel world and many still remember him from those years.

He was part of the Florida-based group the Modulations in the ‘70s, then shifted to R&B in 1980 when he was the featured vocalist on Norman Connors’ Top 20 hit “Melancholy Fire.”

He toured with Connors, then signed a solo deal with RCA in 1983. During the ‘80s and ‘90s he had several hits, the biggest being the single “Show Me” in 1984 (number three R&B), “We’ve Only Just Begun” (number two R&B hit) in 1987, and his sole number one hit “Here I Go Again” in 1991.

He’s recently shifted gears again, and is now on the smooth jazz charts with his latest single “Love By Design” featuring Regina Belle, the title track of the similarly titled EP. The single is a reunion of Jones and Belle, who previously had a hit duet with “From Now On” in 2001. The EP is part of his additional career as the creator and head of the company Talent Room Entertainment and Publishing, Inc. The newest single from the EP “Trust In Me” was released last month, and it features the great gospel artist Genobia Jeter. Additional singles scheduled to be released from the album this Fall include two up-tempo songs titled “Cook-Out” and “Family Time.” They are co-written and produced by Chuckii Booker. The EP’s second single was titled “You & Me.”

Jones has also earned praise for his work as a producer. He was both writer and producer for the Canton Spirituals’ singles “Never Let Go” and “They Need to Belong,” ultimately winning a Stellar Award. He’s also excelled in the theater, being part of the casts for the plays “The Devil Made Me Do It” and “When a Woman’s Fed Up,” touring nationwide for over two years.

Glenn Jones’ show at the City Winery, 609 Lafayette Street, begins at 7:30 p.m. Glenn Jones show at the City Winery, 609 Lafayette Street, begins at 7:30 p.m.
