Metro Trustee’s office offers tax freeze program

NASHVILLE, TN — Trustee Erica S. Gilmore and the Office of the Metropolitan Trustee are taking proactive steps to help residents of Nashville and Davidson County take advantage of the higher Property Tax Freeze program.

Starting July 2024, the qualifying income limit for the Property Tax Freeze program will increase from $47,750 to $ 60,000, allowing more residents ages 65 and older to freeze their property tax payment amounts.

In light of the pressing issues of gentrification and rising living costs, Trustee Gilmore has scheduled this year’ s Tax Freeze & Tax Relief Sign- Up Events one month earlier than usual. These early pre- enrollment events aim to maximize the number of residents enrolled before the statewide registration opens on July 24.

By preregistering applicants, the Trustee’ s Office ensures that those who register early will be signed up as soon as the programs officially open July 24 th, providing critical relief ahead of the 2025 property reappraisal year.

This year is anticipated to bring increased property values and higher property taxes due to ongoing inflation and gentrification since the last assessment in 2020 . Taking advantage of the Tax Freeze program now can lock in current property tax amounts, eliminating the burden of future tax increases.

To assist with the sign- up process, the Trustee’ s Office will host multiple events at various locations across Davidson County. Tax Freeze and Tax Relief experts will be available to provide one- on- one assistance to attendees, helping them pre- enroll in the programs and answering any questions they may have about their property taxes. Attendees are encouraged to bring their 2023 tax forms to complete the enrollment process. ( Specific enrollment forms as well as the Trustee’ s Office’ s new “ 2024-2025 Property Tax Freeze & Relief Programs” brochure are listed on www.nashville.gov/departments/trustee.)

Sign- Up Events Schedule ( 2 – hour events)

Wed. 7/24 at 9:30 a.m.  East Park Community Center

Wed. 7/31 at noon FiftyForward J.L. Turner Center

The Trustee’ s Office is partnering with Greater Nashville Regional Council, local community centers, and senior programs to reach as many residents as possible. Metro Nashville Network will record and post one of Trustee Gilmore’ s upcoming presentations online for residents who cannot attend. Additional sign- up events will be announced at a later date.
