Dallas–After Hattie B’s Hot Chicken confirmed last month it was taking a “serious look” at opening restaurants in Texas, today it confirmed a lease has been signed in Dallas. The company’s first Texas location will be at 3000 Main St. in Deep Ellum.

“We want to be in vibrant neighborhoods that bring people from all over the city to enjoy our hot chicken and cold beer and some good times,” says Nick Bishop Jr., co-founder of the Nashville restaurant group.

In a statement from Hattie B’s, real estate advisor Cal Marsh calls Deep Ellum “the best restaurant and entertaining district here.”

Hattie B’s restaurants serve the kind of food that people wait in line for. The signature dish is its hot chicken, which comes in several levels of spiciness. The dish itself is about 100 years old, and Prince’s Hot Chicken in Nashville gets credit as one of the earliest sellers of hot chicken. Dallas is experiencing its own hot chicken boom right now, so Hattie B’s is right on time.

Since it opened in Tennessee in 2012, the spicy chicken spot has grown to Memphis, Atlanta, Vegas and more. A spokeswoman in August said the company is looking in Houston and Austin, not just Dallas.

Nick Bishop Sr. says the company’s mission is “to provide authentic Nashville hot chicken served with Southern hospitality in a fun, high energy environment, and we can’t wait to open our first Texas location in Dallas.”

The shop will be located on the east end of Deep Ellum, near Monkey King Noodle Company, Terry Black’s Barbecue and AllGood Cafe.

You’ll have to temper your fiery excitement, though: It opens in “late summer 2021,” according to a press release.
