NASHVILLE, TN — A historic site in Nashville will be the place where a third annual celebration will occur this weekend. Organizers for the Third Annual Music City Freedom Festival promise it will be the biggest yet. It’s also appropriate that the celebration is accelerating as Juneteenth is now a national holiday, the first time that’s been the case.
For those unaware of the history, June 19, 1865 was the date that emancipation occurred for slaves in those states that were in rebellion against the Union. It has been celebrated annually in various parts of the United States since that day, but as we celebrate Juneteenth now being acknowledged as a national holiday. President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth Day Act into law June 17, 2021.
This year’s event will be held at Hadley Park Saturday June 18 and Sunday June 19th. All events are free and open to the public. The festival will blend cultural celebration, historical commemoration and reflection and community activity and interaction. But Juneteenth’s true importance should not be forgotten. The previous two Freedom Festivals have been successes, but anticipation is high that this third one will be even bigger.
The organizers are also seeking advertisers and sponsors for the event. Any business, organization or individual who participates will have either their business or company name featured in every presentation, promo, flyer, broadcast and social media ad.
