NASHVILLE, TN — While most of the OVC’s men’s teams were sidelined due to COVID-19 issues, the Lady Tigers were making some early headway in conference play. They took a 58-34 victory at Morehead State to get their second conference win. They were led by Tatyana Davis who scored 17 points in 23 minutes, including hitting three of six three-pointers. Sierra McCullough led the Lady Tigers in rebounds with a season-high 12.
They are now 7-6 overall, and at 2-0 in the OVC for their first time since the 2014-15 season, the last time the Lady Tigers made the NCAA Tournament.Their next scheduled Thursday game is against UT Martin. They have a chance at winning three consecutive OVC games for the first time since the 1993-94 season when they won four consecutive to begin conference play.
The men’s team has won three of the last four, but have had both their scheduled OVC games canceled and rescheduled. They will play Tennessee Tech at the Gentry Center January 17 and Morehead State on the road January 24.
Vanderbilt also lost two games due to COVID-19, though they won two games in Hawaii at the Diamond Head Classic, defeating BYU and Hawaii. The championship game was canceled due to problems with the Stanford roster. They are set to open SEC play Tuesday against Arkansas on the road.
