ABC’s Garnett-Nabrit Lectures to spotlight issues in ministry and communities

Nashville, Tenn. (TN Tribune)-American Baptist College has announced keynote speakers and workshops for the 66th Annual Garnett-Nabrit Lectures, which will take place Oct. 22-24 at Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church, located at 1203 Ninth Avenue North in Nashville.

This year’s lecture series is part of the College’s centennial celebration. Since its founding as American Baptist Theological Seminary in 1924, through a partnership of the all-Black National Baptist Convention USA and the all-white Southern Baptist Convention, ABC has educated leaders who have made positive contributions in ministry, education, community service, social justice, and more. Students from the school played a pivotal role in Nashville’s civil rights protests of the 1960s.

“Each year, the Garnett-Nabrit Lectures allow us to reflect on the Christian roots of Black Church faith and heritage and how that foundation can guide us in the present day,” said ABC President Forrest E. Harris. “It’s a special time for alumni and others to network, learn, and fellowship in a dynamic setting infused with the traditions of ‘The Holy Hill.’”

The 2024 lectures will include keynote addresses from the Rev. Dr. George L. Parks, senior servant of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Largo, Md.; the Rev. Dr. Phillip Pointer Sr., senior pastor of St. Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock, Ark.; the Rev. Dr. Danielle Brown, senior pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Plainfield, N.J.; and the Rev. Dr. Marvin McMickle, pastor emeritus of Antioch Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. The workshops and panel discussions will include topics ranging from building a thriving volunteer base to utilizing artificial intelligence in ministry.

The 2024 Garnett-Nabrit Lectures also will include a centennial luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 24 that will focus on ABC’s “Untold Stories, Enduring Struggle, and Limitless Possibilities.”

Registration for the lecture series is now open. Event details and payment information can be found at www.abcnash.edu/roadto100.
