In a statement released today, House Minority Leader Karen Camper said: “I am appalled by what occurred today in a committee room at the State Capitol during the extraordinary session. Citizens were removed from the room for sitting quietly, and then the entire room was cleared because some people clapped during the meeting. This is outrageous. I cannot believe how petty this was. When the Covenant shooting occurred in March, members of this body poured out their hearts to the community and said they cared. Thousands of Tennesseans came to their house—the People’s House—to urge us to do something about…

This comes after hundreds of citizens gathered during March and April following the killing of three students and three staff members at The Covenant…
I’m hopeful that we will see common sense gun violence legislation passed this week asour state lawmakers convene for a special session on public safety.Gun violence does not have partisan boundaries so political party affiliation should notdictate how we approach gun law reforms. I urge our legislators to listen to the residents of this great state. Sensible reforms canprevent senseless killings. Our legislators can take action to keep our communities safewhile still preserving the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. After the tragic murders at the Covenant School, now is the moment for statelawmakers to turn statements of sympathy and prayers…
