NASHVILLE, TN – The 2ndAnnual People’s State of Metro did not begin with a color guard and a choir performance. Angelique Johnson, an organizer with Music City Riders United (MCRU), got right to the point:” What do we want?” “No cuts!” “When do we want it?” “Now,” chanted the crowd.  WeGo, aka MTA, has plans to cut Metro’s bus routes and MCRU wants them expanded. If Mayor David Briley is the city’s biggest booster, the people of PATHE, the People’s Alliance for Transit, Housing, and Employment, are probably its biggest knockers. “I have a spoiler alert for you. Nashville will…

NASHVILLE, TN – Speaker of the House Glen Casada started out denying how racist and sexist texts ended up on his cell phone and doubted his Chief of Staff had anything to do with them. It is apparent that Cade Cothren wrote them. Casada exchanged explicitly racist and sexist texts with Cothren, then excused them as just locker room talk.  With criticism mounting, Casada abruptly fired Cothren last week but insisted he was not resigning. Instead he announced an action plan he was working on with the Tennessee Black Caucus. Caucus Chairman G.A. Hardaway told reporters Friday that the caucus…

To State Leaders and Whom It May Concern:  As a citizen, taxpayer, and professional historian I am deeply concerned by the return and the rise of neo-Confederacy in the Tennessee state government (i.e., Executive and Legislative branches).  The Rebel-like-bearded chief staff member for the Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives appears to be charged and documented by news media with conspiracy to electronically falsify documents with the intent to falsely arrest and imprison a young civil rights worker (in 21st century USA!). The young man and his colleagues were exercising their rights under the US and Tennessee constitutions. Yet,…
