CHENNAI, India — U.S. social media giant Twitter has lost legal protection in India for content on its platform due to non-compliance with the new Information Technology rules, opening the microblogging site to lawsuits for third-party content on its site under Indian law. Social media firms or intermediaries like Twitter, Facebook, and instant messaging app WhatsApp are granted safe harbor protection under the law, which provides them legal immunity against content hosted on their platforms. India is one of the most important markets for Twitter, with an estimated 17.5 million users, only topped by the U.S. and Japan. In a culmination of…

In 2017, the proposed plan included rail construction, a port, a petrochemical complex, special economic zones, and tourism projects. An “integrated tourism complex” — an international airport and a new harbor at Dugong Creek — was also proposed. By 2018, the government think-tank…

A new report from Start-Up Nation Central reveals that Israel’s innovation technology sector broke a new capital funding record: a total of $10.5 billion raised since the start of the year. The same amount was raised throughout the whole of 2020, which was itself a record year, in less than half the time. Israel recorded an increase of 137 percent in innovation investment for the first five months of 2021 compared with the first five months of 2020, the report says, while the increase globally was only 89 percent. This means Israel now leads the world in funding growth. Uri…

Spectacular displays of gushing lava sometimes reach 1,312 feet. Although walking on fresh lava fields is a dangerous activity that can turn deadly for sensation-seeking hikers, many exposed themselves to perilous situations. Donatas Arlauskas, who lives locally, filmed a video in the Natthagi valley near Fagradalsfjall volcano on June 20, warning about the risks of falling through the thin crusts into red-hot lava cavities underneath. He said the volcano had been releasing lava non-stop since March: “People need to…

After calling for a wealth tax on billionaires and a levy on stock trades, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is stirring new controversy with her calls to put funding of the Internal Revenue Service beyond the reach of Congress — a move, she says, would facilitate tax enforcement, but which critics say could disproportionally target her political foes. The “Restoring the IRS Act of 2021,” which Sen. Warren introduced in May, proposes a budget of $31.5 billion for the IRS — a nearly-triple increase on the present $11.9 billion. The bill would also allocate funds on a mandatory basis, rather than…
