TALAMPAYA, Argentina – The Argentinean archeologists have managed to unearth the remains of one of the oldest unidentified species that existed on earth. The species, believed to be an herbivorous animal, is estimated to be more than 237 million years old and its remains were found at a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in La Rioja province in western Argentina. “The remains were found during excavations in an old level of a site in the National Park of Talampaya,” said Dr Martin Ezcurra, head of the Paleontology Department at the Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences, and also a researcher with…

GENOA, Italy – A footage has surfaced of Italian officials fishing out corpses and coffins after a major landslide caused a part of the cemetery to send a hundred graves into the sea in Genoa, Italy. The Camogli cemetery was on a cliff 50 meters (164 feet) high, and when a landslide occurred, part of the cemetery collapsed with it. Around 200 coffins reportedly slid down the mountain and ended in the sea, as well as two chapels with bodies inside. The Councillor for Public Works of the municipality of Camogli, Tino Revello, explained the area had been under observation…

Zimbabwe Vice President Kembo Mohadi resigned on March 1, a day after the release of recordings of phone conversations in which he allegedly solicits sex from married women. Mohadi had been under pressure to resign from various women’s rights groups amid other allegations of sexual misconduct. The vice president is only the second top public official to step down in the country’s recent history. Former president Canaan Banana, serving in a mostly ceremonial role, resigned in 1987 after the Constitution was amended to make the presidency an executive post. In 1999, he was convicted on several sexual assault charges and…
KYTHIRA, Greece – Greek archeologists have recovered lost treasures from the wreck of a ship belonging to a British Lord from the Parthenon at the dawn of the 19th century. Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin and 11th Earl of Kincardine (1771-1841), is perhaps best known as the Scottish nobleman who controversially removed artifacts from the now UNESCO World Heritage site and took them to England. They are currently kept at the British Museum and were acquired from Lord Elgin in 1816. Greek archeologists have recovered some new items from the wreck of one of the three ships — the…
MAGDALENA, Colombia – The practice of abstaining from red meat during Lent continues to raise concerns over the consumption of critically endangered species in Colombia and other places in South America. The Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute in a recent report urged people to come forward to prevent critically endangered turtles, iguanas and caimans among other reptiles from ending up on people’s dinner plates in the run-up to Easter as Catholics observe Lent. Many in Colombia and other South American countries eat these reptiles, as well as their eggs, as a substitute for red meat, which they traditionally…
Tens of thousands of Algerians took to the streets March 2 for the second consecutive week, calling for an end to the current political system that gives the military a dominant role in government. The pro-democracy protest movement, known as the Hirak, continues to roil this North African country long after Covid-19 restrictions forced suspension of demonstrations from last March until last week. Algerian authorities have responded by deploying thousands of police officers who arrested dozens and used sticks and tear gas to disperse the protesters. Algerians are demanding a radical change to the current regime, said political activist Karim…
For most dairy cows, life is a continuing cycle of pregnancy and birth before heading to the slaughterhouse. Angela was one of those cows. But thanks to a kindhearted farmworker, she was reunited with her blind baby, Gali, at Freedom Farm instead of ending up on a dinner plate. About 250 cows, chickens, sheep, goats, pigs, turkeys and ducks live out their days in peace at this educational sanctuary in Israel, alongside 18 rabbits rescued from research labs. Cofounders Adit Romano and Meital Ben Ari know their sanctuary doesn’t make a dent in the multibillion-dollar factory farming industry. But they…
