    Essie Lee Cooper Passes Away

    Nashville, TN (TN Tribune)–Essie Lee Cooper was born July 12, 1930 to the late James Anderson and Lurline Mitchell in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She departed this life peacefully on October 5, 2021.

    Visitation is Oct, 16 2021 10:00a.m. – 11:00a.m. at Jefferson Street Baptist Church.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Sandis Cooper, Sr., sisters Sophronia Frazier and Margaret Love Crawford.

    She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Emory United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She attended elementary school and graduated from Holloway
    High in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She then moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and she attended Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church with her aunts. She lived with her aunt who was her namesake, Essie Turner where she met the love of her life, Sandis Cooper. Essie and Sandis were married in 1952. To this union three children were born, Sherlene, Sandis, Jr. and Emily.

    She joined Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church where her husband’s family were long time members. Essie sung in the choir and served in the missionary department. She attended regularly until her health began to fail.

    She worked for the family of J. Bransford Wallace and retired after 40 plus years.


    Essie was a Christian woman filled with the Spirit of Love and Kindness. One of her favorite
    hobbies was reading. She shared advise, encouragement and counsel with family and friends.


    She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories; one son, Sandis Cooper, Jr. (Sandra); two daughters, Sherlene Cooper Fry and Emily Cooper; one brother, Rev. James Mitchell
    (Christine) a sister, Verna Majors (David); a mother-in-law, Cassie Cooper; seven
    grandchildren; DeMargrio S. Cooper, Travis D. Cooper, Candis Clear, Darion J. Cooper
    (Sarah), Sandis Cooper III, Marcus D. Edwards and Xavier W. Harding (Kristen); fourteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and members of Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church.


    The family would like to send a very special thank you to the Nurses, CNT’s, Social Worker and Chaplain at Kindred Hospice who cared for her in the comfort of her home for 18 months. The family also thanks Lola Brown, Ashley Taylor, Wanda Brooks and Karen Cole for caring for Essie during her extended illness. You gave her an extra touch of love and the family will be forever
    grateful!
