NASHVILLE, TN — Among several local Juneteenth celebrations, one of the biggest and most family-oriented is the annual Music City Freedom Festival. This event, now in its fifth year, will be held this weekend starting June 15 and continuing through June 17 at historic Hadley Park, 1037 28th Ave. North. The festival is free and runs from noon until 8 p.m. each day.
There will be local food trucks, local vendors to shop from, and even inflatables for the children. There will also be local live bands performing, with music mixes also provided by an area DJ. Community residents are invited to bring their lawn chairs.
An additional element this year will be the showing of a tribute video honoring The Tennessee Tribune Founder/Publisher Rosetta Miller-Perry. It will air on all three days of the event. The Tribune is now celebrating its 33rd year and is the state’s largest Black-owned publication. It’s now also available statewide, in Memphis, Chattanooga and Knoxville as well as throughout the greater metropolitan Nashville area.
The Tribune has also expanded recently into entrepreneurship, with two stores now open at the airport providing tourist and local access for area Black businesses and vendors. Social Distancing measures and CDC guidelines will be in affect for this event.
