According to the FBI’s data, Tennessee is 3rd in the country regarding violent crime. “We are also in the top 10 states where men kill women and at one point, we were number four, so if you have people that are learning violence…

Still, more than 90 percent of the country observes the day in some combination of attending midnight Mass, putting up a tree, exchanging gifts and getting together with family. For many in the minority who don’t, some alternative has been promoted or even invented to provide a parallel holiday: Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or, for those jaded by the commercialization of Jesus’ birth, Festivus, the secular celebration “Seinfeld” emphatically declared is for…

By James B. Ewers Jr. Ed.D. Last week, we enjoyed another Thanksgiving holiday. It is a holiday that began many years ago. The first Thanksgiving according to the records was celebrated in November 1621. This celebration lasted three days and was attended by 90 Native American Wampanoag people and 53 survivors of the Mayflower ship. People on the ship were called pilgrims. Assorted fish, wildfowl and corn were eaten during this time. Now, we fast forward to this most recent Thanksgiving. Some things have changed yet the tradition remains the same. Some might say it had food, fun and fellowship.…
