Hendersonville poet and abstract artist Henry L. Jones was named the city’s first poet laureate in a brief ceremony at the Hendersonville Public Library on March 4. Memphis, TN (TN Tribune)–On Tuesday, March 2, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agriculture Specialists in Memphis, TN were inspecting a shipment from Tanzania in route to Oregon when they found live insects.  The one-piece shipment, which was an old cardboard light bulb box, was manifested as “dried loofah.” The box contained three dried loofahs along with wood chunks infested with two species of live insects.  An entomologist identified them as Mantodea (a form of praying mantis) and a Torymidae (a form of wasp).  Mantids are normally predatory, and the wasps found are frequently a parasitoid, meaning they lay larvae…

Nashville, TN – On Tuesday, March 9, 2021 two separate judges who preside in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee approved settlements of tip and wage theft claims, covering almost 500 workers and valuing more than $1 million in total payout. Today marks one year since Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old Black front line emergency technician, was shot six times and killed in her home by Louisville, KY police officers attempting a drug raid.  Taylor and her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, were awakened in the early morning hours of March 13, 2020, by loud pounding on the front door. They came to search for drugs. Minneapolis, MN —The City of Minneapolis agreed on Friday to pay $27 million to the family of George Floyd, the Black man whose death set off months of protests after a video showed a white police officer kneeling on his neck.
