NASHVILLE, TN — The Links, Incorporated’s Hendersonville Area (TN) Chapter continues to educate women through its service initiative, “Linking Together for Wellness,” a series of webinars designed to address women’s health issues. On Monday, March 14, 7:30 p.m. the chapter will present its third webinar in the series featuring Dr. Tina Covington Gresham, a cardiologist based out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The webinar is free and open to the public.

The webinar comes off the heels of American Heart Month and into the Women’s Month Celebration. According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) — including coronary heart disease, which can cause heart attack or stroke — kill nearly 50,000 Black women annually, and among Black women ages 20 and older, nearly 50 percent have CVD. Many factors contribute to heart disease and stroke among Black women, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, lack of physical activity, being overweight and family history of heart disease.

“Black women take on so much and it is important that we take control of our health – and that means caring for the mind, body, spirit and heart,” said Attorney Leah Love, president of the Hendersonville Area (TN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

Gresham is cardiology specialist based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. With more than 35 years of experience in the medical field, the Hempstead Long Island, New York native is a dual-degree graduate from Howard University, graduating from Howard University College of Medicine in 1987. She completed her internal medicine internship and residency programs and a fellowship in cardiology from Duke University. Gresham has published numerous articles pertaining to diet and preventive lifestyles as well.
