Prince William County, Virginia – The Potomac Shores Golf Club welcomed golf icon and preeminent course designer, Jack Nicklaus, for a special press conference celebrating the grand opening of the new 18-hole, par-72 Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Held on National Golf Day in May, the grand opening included a round of golf for local enthusiasts, followed by an open discussion with the designer himself.

“My job was to create an aesthetically pleasing course with great shots and that is what we hope we have done here. We’ve created a golf course of quality that people can enjoy and that serves the community,” said Jack Nicklaus. “The course has beautiful terrain, beautiful vistas and a certain wow factor,” he added.

The course features a hardwood forest outline, dramatic vistas, rolling greens, and holes that play along the Potomac River and Powell’s Creek. Located just 30 minutes south of Washington, D.C., Potomac Shores Golf Club is a centerpiece to the Potomac Shores community being developed by SunCal, one of the country’s leading developers of master-planned communities and commercial developments.

“The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Potomac Shores provides golfers of all skill levels the opportunity to play a course designed by a man recognized as the greatest golfer in the history of the game and one of golf’s preeminent designers,” said SunCal Senior Vice President of Public Affairs David Soyka.

The Potomac Shores Golf Club features a new 8,000-square-foot clubhouse providing the ideal environment for residents and visitors to dine, relax and recap the experience of a picturesque round of golf. Guests will also enjoy the clubhouse’s outdoor ambiance with brick patios overlooking the 18th green, complete with distinctive fireplaces and an outdoor fire pit. Finally, the spacious event lawn provides an ideal venue for tournaments, weddings and other group outings.

“As with golf itself, it took patience and perseverance to build this course. It took a long time to finish, but it was worth it. The course itself is a challenging piece of property and we tried to make it two things: tough but fair,” said Nicklaus.
