KNOXVILLE, TN — UniversityofTennessee Knoxville Campus, Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT), andPellissippi State Community College;  all prestigious institutes of higher learning, all offering Summer Institutes for 300 scholars of Project GRAD. The goal of the program, now in its 18th year, exposes graduates to career opportunities after high school.

Those who attended the program at the University of Tennessee were given an opportunity to experience campus from day classes to evening activities. The scholars even stayed on campus  for a full week, and  were the  first to stay in the Universities newest dorm, Magnolia House.

The students who attended the Institute held at TCAT received hands on experiences in areas such as  welding, HVAC, refrigeration, automotive technology, even surgery technology,  while those who attended the Pellissippi Summer Institute learned about coding, robotics, 3D printing, and digital storytelling among  other fields of study.

The new program , Hands on the Future, along with the other programs allow the students to interact with faculty and students, business leaders, and companies,  and experience not only  what it is like to go to college, but exposes them to different career fields.

Students who participate receive a stipend and certificate for completion. This is just part of the benefits of being a grad scholar as those who graduate on time with a minimum 2.5 GPA are eligible to receive a $4000.00 scholarship from Project GRAD, Knoxville.
