Last year, Dancing With the Stars’ Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Valentin Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd had their own smash hit ‘Our Way’ national tour that was a smash hit! Last year’s tour was all about family. For 2018 the family trio is back and this time it’s still all about family, plus-one. Maks and Peta are now the proud parents of their baby son Shai Aleksander, who is very much a part of their new tour titled CONFIDENTIAL.
This will be their most honest tour yet, revealing secrets, hopes, and dreams. The show will inspire and delight plus, fans will learn a little bit more about Maks, Val and Peta and maybe even yourself.
The Confidential tour will be stopping in Nashville March 24th at TPAC’S Andrew Jackson Hall. Maks took a break from rehearsal earlier this week to answer 5 Questions about some of the behind the scenes details about their brand-new tour, which launches March 19th.
TRIBUNE: How long is your upcoming tour? MAKS: It’s like 50 shows and 49 cities, or something like that. The baby is with us for the 9 weeks tour. We are trying to be that kind of parents that are doing stuff together as a family. I just could not fathom leaving our baby for no more than seven or eight hours at a time. It would just be too crazy for me. When I have to go away on business for a couple of days from my family, I get very sad sometimes. I can’t even sleep from thinking about them. It just makes me crazy when I don’t have my wife and baby around me. Our son’s bedtime is about 7:30 p.m. So, around 8:00, mommy and daddy have to go to work to do our show and we know that he’s sleeping safely.”
TRIBUNE: What can people expect from your current tour that’s different from last year’s tour? MAKS: Life happens. There have been a lot of things to happen in my personal life. I am now a husband and a father. Peta and I have gone through a lot in our relationship. Some of it has been confusing to some people. The show is very personal for. Some of our fans who follow us, will be entertained and will probably say, ‘Oh my God, is that what really happened?’ and for people who don’t know us, fans will see that we are a couple just like everybody else. We make mistakes we hurt people just like anybody else does. Peta has gone through a lot in her professional career. She and I have had an up-and-down relationship, about a lot of things we’ve experienced. So, we thought about it and decided to just be honest and share some things that are personal with our fans. But we want to share these things in a way that id not ‘cheap,’ so to speak. These days on television you often see shows where they stick cameras in your face and you say provocative things. But Peta and I are not that kind of couple. We keep things to ourselves but once in a while, we don’t mind sharing some situations about our lives that will hopefully let people see that if we go through problems and survive it as a couple, then you can too. So live vicariously through us. But most importantly, Val, Peta and myself, we just want to be responsible with everybody’s time. People are nice enough to give us two hours of their lives, so we want to give them those two hours back with a very good entertaining show.
TRIBUNE: Did all three of you contribute to the choreography? MAKS: We worked on the choreography altogether. We work on everything together for the show. We also have a very brilliant artistic director. She often takes the notes that Val, Peta and myself put together and puts it together in a way that is a story…But the dancing on this tour is our movements. It’s not someone else speaking for us and it’s very genuine.
TRIBUNE: Do you think that we might eventually see you do some acting in the future? MAKS: That’s another element of doing a live show that’s interesting to me. I’ve dabbled a little bit in acting and I immediately got drawn to live theater. I really respect movies and how they’re made. I respect the movie set. I respect when they have to do 11 or 12 takes over and over again… I just try to take life as it comes day by day. I’ve made promises to myself that have not happened yet. So, at the moment, my plate is kind of full. If an acting project comes up that I’m interested in and there’s time to do it, then yes, I will gladly do so. But there is still nothing like being in the moment of doing a live show. Being in a live production like we’re doing with this tour is great. Right now, I am very happy with where my life is.
TRIBUNE: As a new dad, what score would you receive when it comes to diaper changing? MAKS: I think that I would get a score of 12, no 13! Yeah, I get extra points for wanting to change the diapers and, also for having perfected the diaper changing technique before I even had to do it for the first time.
