NASHVILLE, TN — The Meharry Medical College, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC) and Tennessee State University (TSU) Cancer Partnership will host its 16th Annual Cancer Retreat on Saturday, April 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The retreat will be held on the Meharry Medical College campus in the Harold D. West Basic Sciences Building, Room M001.

This year’s topic is “Precision Medicine and Health Disparities.” The purpose of the retreat is to inform scientists, students, physicians, nurses and the general public about the latest in cancer research and the community engagement efforts that encourage practices to minimize cancer disparities among underrepresented minorities.

The Dr. Phil Browning Memorial Lecture will be presented by Dr. Alex Adjei, professor of oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He will discuss “Advances in Systemic Cancer Therapy—Implications for Health Disparities.” Other speakers include Dr. Tuya Pal, VICC; Rebecca Selove, TSU’s Center for Prevention Research; and Dr. Consuelo Wilkins, Meharry–Vanderbilt Alliance.

A poster session will be held for all cancer-related projects by investigators and students, and poster prizes will be awarded. Admission is free and open to anyone interested in the latest in cancer research.
