Tennessee native Lavera Floyd, known for her remarkable accomplishments in science and championing of civil rights, passed away. She was 81. Floyd, a remarkably loving woman whose strength, intelligence, and dedication left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew her, was born on October 6, 1941 in Gadsden, Tennessee to Rosie Lee and Willie Lee Butler.
