“A legend has fallen. Mr. Aaron was the true embodiment of the strength, perseverance, and resilience of African Americans across this nation,” said Kevin Gooch, chairman of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta. “He became a national hero by ascending to the top of the mountain of America’s pastime with 755 home runs.” Aaron was a beloved legacy member of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta since 1995. His contribution to the organization helped mentored thousands of young people throughout the Atlanta metro area. Nashville, TN (TN Tribune) – The two senators for Tennessee voted to dismiss the sole impeachment article against former President Donald Trump before the Senate. Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) said he voted against the trial because “it is unconstitutional under the Constitution’s plain text” “Spectacles like what we are witnessing this week on the Senate floor are pure political theater. The plain text of the Constitution is clear. It only permits impeachment and conviction of ‘The President’ and requires that the Chief Justice preside when the President is tried. President Trump is no longer ‘The President’ and Chief Justice Roberts…

Knoxville, TN — We at KCDP were deeply disturbed to learn of the racially-motivated vandalization of Logan Temple AME Zion Church. We stand with our colleague, friend, and KCDP Vice-Chair Rev. Sam Brown, Pastor of Logan Temple, in condemning this action. There is no place for racism, hate, and violence in our community. Sadly, we have recently seen an increase in racialized and political vandalism/violence in our community. From the gunshots directed at Planned Parenthood’s facility to the disturbing vandalism at Mayor Kincannon’s house and the Department of Health, this trend is troubling. Much work is left to do as…
WASHINGTON — A divided Senate voted on Tuesday to proceed with Donald J. Trump’s second impeachment trial, narrowly rejecting constitutional objections after House prosecutors opened their case with a harrowing 13-minute video capturing the deadly Capitol riot he stands accused of inciting. Though the presentation stunned senators who lived through the rampage into silence, only six Republicans joined Democrats in clearing the way for the case to be heard, the second indication in two weeks that Mr. Trump is all but certain to be acquitted. “The result of this trial is preordained,” Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, said flatly…

NASHVILLE, TN – A new report from the United Negro College Fund(UNCF) critiqued culturally relevant practices among historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The report, Culturally Relevant Practice: Implementation Among Historically Black Colleges and Universities, looked at why UNCF is especially equipped to support HBCUs and institutions focused on increasing Black student success. Qualitative measures of HBCUs include things like student demographics, retention rates, and student loan default rates. But they aren’t the whole story. Failure to include context and consider mission fuels a deficit narrative of HBCUs,” the report authors wrote. “Conceptualizing Black students as ‘disadvantaged’ and ‘at risk,’…
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Mary Wilson, one of the original members of the Supremes, the 1960s group that helped define the Motown sound and style and propelled Diana Ross to superstardom, has died. She was 76. Wilson died Monday night at her home in Nevada and the cause was not immediately clear, said publicist Jay Schwartz. “I just woke up to this news,” Ross tweeted on Tuesday, offering her condolences to Wilson’s family. “I am reminded that each day is a gift,” she added, writing “I have so many wonderful memories of our time together.” Like many Motown artists, Wilson,…
