By D.R. Adams The United States of America is witnessing 21st century-style Ku Klux Klan operations, perpetrated at the very highest levels in our society. Clearly, the objectives are to deny equal citizenship, suppress the vote, and disenfranchise people of color. Resurging and promoting a “white supremacist” ideology parallel to the 1870s during Reconstruction defines their motives, then and now. Essentially, this Klan style playbook is waging a campaign of intimidation, violence, and misinformation aimed at casting fear and doubt regarding the integrity and administration of our electoral process. This ridiculous Klan clown show is rapidly spreading across the nation,…

By Ashley Benkarski  NASHVILLE, TN— While schools across the nation are grappling with the complexities of distance learning and children are suffering the effects of isolation, North Nashville’s St. Pius Academy has welcomed its students back to classrooms with increased precautions. “We’re extremely grateful to be able to be on campus right now with our students and that’s been a tremendous gift to us this school year,” said Principal Lori Patton. “The conclusion of the 2019-2020 school year was certainly a challenge for everyone, and we did our very best with our students while they were remote, but we were…

By Bill Carey WilliamsonHerald.com At a time such as this, it may give comfort to know that a pandemic gave us some of Tennessee’s greatest heroes. A friend recently took me on a tour of Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis and showed me the graves of four Episcopal nuns who gave their lives caring for others during the yellow fever epidemic of 1878. These women visited homes in which people were dying of yellow fever in August and September of that year. They nursed the sick. They cared for orphans. They wrote letters asking people from across the country to send…

Washington (AP)–In another reversal of Trump-era policy, the Biden administration on Wednesday dropped its discrimination lawsuit against Yale University that alleged the Ivy League school was illegally discriminating against Asian American and white applicants. Federal prosecutors said the Justice Department’s underlying investigation, aimed at ensuring Yale complies with federal anti-discrimination laws, continues. The government accused Yale in October of violating civil rights laws because it “discriminates based on race and national origin in its undergraduate admissions process, and that race is the determinative factor in hundreds of admissions decisions each year.” The investigation stemmed from a 2016 complaint by the…

As a regular supporter of the maintenance of the Hermitage Historic Site, I understand that the nation ultimately must come to reality about Andrew Jackson’s violence, murder, racial hatred, and support for enslavement of millions of persons of African descent (blacks). President Jackson and his Democratic Party (not the Democratic Party of today) must be brought to historical acknowledgement, reckoning and of their sins against God and humanity and perhaps for their ‘grandpappies (1830s-present). New and more truthful history lessons ought to be taught to our children if America is to continue to realize its true creed beyond European…
