This move was followed by a buyout of his contract, a decision that made him a free agent. Duchene had signed a seven-year, $56 million dollar deal back in 2019. By doing this the Predators will take cap hits of $2.56 million next season, $5.56 in 2024-25, $6.56 million in 2025-26 and $1.57 million from 2026-2029. He chose Derek MacKenzie as his new assistant, with the team making the official announcement last Thursday. MacKenzie spent three seasons coaching with Brunette with the Florida Panthers.
