NASHVILLE, TN — On Friday, February 5, over 100 people were trained in CPR.

Hosted at Lee Chapel AME Church. Rev. Harold M. Love Jr., Pastor explained, “The AME Church has a long history of service to the community.  Initiatives like this are part of our commitment to the community.”

This event was done in collaboration with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated  Kappa Lambda Omega Chapter as part of their “Pink Goes Red For Heart” community impact day.

The CPR training was facilitated  by Dr. Katherine Y. Brown, founder of Learn CPR America. As Brown explained, “Almost 90 percent of people who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests die. CPR, if performed in the first few minutes of cardiac arrest, can double or triple a person’s chance of survival. Everyone should know CPR.”

The CPR training intentionally was held on national Go Red Day to bring attention to the #1 and #5 killers of women – heart disease and stroke. Dr. Shawn Pruitt of Pruitt pharmacy also provided health information as part of the program. Audrey Hall serves as lead servant for the Lee Chapel Health Ministry.

The well attended CPR event was open to the entire Nashville community. As Kim Christmon chairman of AKA’s target 2 health promotion committee explained, “The large number of participants exceeded our expectations. It demonstrated that when resources are made available, the Nashville community will step up to learn CPR.” According to Love, “We are a vibrant and loving community that ministers to the spiritual, physical, and social development of all people.”

On Sunday, February 26, 2017 Lee Chapel will host its annual Go Red Sunday, 10 am and invites the community to attend as it again bring awareness to the #1 and #5 killers of women – heart disease and stroke.
