NASHVILLE – Fisk University is hosting a public celebration on Thursday, April 8 at 4 p.m. to
honor the Fisk Jubilee Singers® winning the 2021 GRAMMY Award for Best Roots Gospel
Album. The celebration will take place on the Fisk University campus in front of Jubilee Hall. It
will include a performance by the Fisk Jubilee Singers®.
The album, Celebrating Fisk! (The 150 th Anniversary Album), is the first GRAMMY win for the
Fisk Jubilee Singers® in their 150-year history. The album includes recordings from 2016 and
2017 concerts at the Ryman Auditorium. The 12-song collection includes guest appearances by
Ruby Amanfu, Keb’ Mo’, Lee Ann Womack, The Fairfield Four, Rod McGaha, Derek Minor,
Shannon Sanders, Rodney Atkins, Jimmy Hall and CeCe Winans.
The Fisk Jubilee Singers® were established as an American choral music ensemble in the 1800s.
They have been recognized with a Dove Award, synergy Award, 2008 National Medal of the
Arts, Recording Academy Honors, The Governor’s Arts Award and the Presidential Lifetime
Achievement Award from the The National Arts Club in New York. They have been inducted
into the Music City Walk of Fame, the GRAMMY® Hall of Fame, the Gospel Music Hall of
Fame and the American Classical Music Hall of Fame.
