NASHVILLE, TN — Meharry Medical College is hosting its annual School of Medicine Match Day on Friday, March 15 at 10:30 am, Meharry Medical College Campus’ Ballroom of the Cal Turner Family Center, 1011 21st Avenue North, Nashville. Graduating medical students will learn where they will be going to receive their residency training. During residency the doctors train in a specialty such as primary care, OB/GYN and more. The match ensures a uniform process through which residency programs select residency candidates to fill first-year and second-year post-graduate training positions.

For almost 150 years, Meharry Medical College has been working to increase the diversity in our nation’s health care system – ultimately advancing access to culturally connected providers who understand the people and challenges in the communities they serve. Meharry’s Match Day represents the medical student’s dedication and hard work in overcoming the economic and social barriers minority students face when pursuing a career in medicine. Match Day is a rewarding day for each student and symbolizes the official start to their career as a practicing provider.

Meharry Medical College, founded in 1876, is the nation’s largest private, independent historically Black academic health sciences center dedicated to educating minority and other health professionals. True to its heritage, it is a United Methodist Church related institution. The college is particularly well known for its uniquely nurturing, highly effective educational programs; emerging preeminence in health disparities research; culturally sensitive, evidence-based health services and significant contribution to the diversity of the nation’s health professions workforce. Meharry is a leading national educator of African Americans with M.D. and D.D.S. degrees and Ph.D. degrees in the biomedical sciences.
