The Metro Emergency Overflow Shelter will open Sunday, November 9, 2025, and Monday, November 10, 2025, from 7PM until 7AM. We will continue to monitor the weather over the next 7 days to determine the need based on the activation criteria and extenuating weather conditions.
Activation Criteria
- The Emergency Shelter will open when the temperature is at or below 32°F for three (3) consecutive hours.
Extenuating Weather Conditions
- In the event of snow on the ground and temperatures above 32°F, shelter hours may be extended and will be announced by 12 noon the day before.
- When temperatures remain at or below 32°F for 24hrs or more, shelter hours may be extended and will be announced by 12 noon the day before.
Activation Notice
- Shelter activation decisions are made by noon the prior day, using the National Weather Service as the forecast source.
Shelter Operations
- Hours: Open 7:00 pm – 7:00 am
- Facilities: Hot meals and snacks available; showers under review.
- Sleeping Arrangements: Mats and cots are provided.
Pet Policy: Dogs are allowed, with kennels provided. Pets must be kenneled during transport.
Overflow Only: Individuals are encouraged to use long-term shelters before seeking the emergency overflow shelter.

- Offers overnight shelter with kennels for dogs; it includes day shelter during cold/inclement weather.

- Day Center: Monday–Friday, 6am – 2pm (April-October); extended hours in winter.
- Winter Shelter: Available for adult males starting November 1.

- For Young Adults (18-24): LGBTQ+ affirming shelter open nightly from November 1–March 31.
