NASHVILLE, TN — Nashville SC’s Hany Mukhtar is providing his team some much needed offensive punch and firepower, while also emerging as a strong candidate for postseason honors. Mukhtar had another two goals Sunday as Nashville SC gained an important road victory, defeating DC United 3-1 Washington. D.C, The two-goal explosion by Mukhtar gave him a team leading eight goals, and it was also the third time this season he’s had at least two goals in a game.
Mukhtar’s first came during first half stoppage time, which extended nearly five minutes due to a hydration break provided both teams to help them survive. playing in extreme heat conditions. The second came in the game’s 50th minute. Defender Daniel Lovitz opened the scoring with his first goal of the season in the sixth minute, giving Nashville a quick 1-0 lead. Randall Leal had a pair of assists and Dax McCarthy added another. Goaltender Joe Willis wasn’t severely tested, having to make only two saves. The victory boosted the record of Nashville SC to 7-5-5, and improved their record against DC United to 3-0-1.
Nashville SC is now tied with FC Dallas for fourth place among MLS Western Conference teams with 26 points. They are only two behind third place Austin, three behind second place Real Salt Lake and four behind first place LAFC.
In a short week, Nashville SC returned home for a Wednesday match against Orlando City. They are back on the road next Sunday against Portland, then have a July 9 home game against Charlotte.
