NASHVILLE, TN — The Tennessee Titans unveiled a potent running game against the Minnesota Vikings Saturday night.
They gained over 280 yards on the ground in posting a 24-16 road victory to even their preseason record at 1-1.
With Ryan Tannehill sitting things out and Will Levis injured, Malik Willis played all four quarters as the QB.
He didn’t exactly light things up passing wise, though he ended with 10 completions in 17 attempts. But most were of the short or checkdown variety, which accounted for only 85 yards gained through the air. But Willis did get 91 on the ground, and on at least three occasions extended drives by getting first downs on the ground.
Derrick Henry also sat things out, but the one two punch of Julius Chestnut and Tyjae Spears was unstoppable.
Chestnut had one touchdown run and also a touchdown reception. Spears scored the Titans’ first touchdown. Chestnut had 98 yards rushing on 13 carries and Spears 57 on seven.
It was just the kind of performance the Titans needed. They now head into their final preseason game Friday at home against the New England Patriots.
