Nashville, Tenn. (TN Tribune)-Meharry Medical College, the Nashville Chapter of Jack and Jill and the Metropolitan Development and Housing Authority (MDHA) LYDIA Society recently hosted a Black Family Health and Wellness Pop Up event.

This event on November 16, supported by the Department of Public Health in the School of Global Health at Meharry and the Jack of Jill of America, Inc. Foundation aimed to promote healthy living and well-being within the community.  The LYDIA (Leading Youth in Dreams, Inspiration, and Aspirations) Society is a leadership program for young women who reside in MDHA properties.  The current LYDIA society queen, Ms. Makenzi Booker, was on hand to welcome attendees.

The day was filled with a variety of activities designed to engage families and encourage a lifestyle of wellness. Participants enjoyed yoga, fitness and line-dancing sessions led by experienced instructors, providing an opportunity to exercise and learn about the benefits of physical activity. Additionally, a CPR lesson was offered, empowering attendees with lifesaving skills that can make a significant difference in emergencies.

One of the event’s highlights was the “Ask Our Docs” session, where community members had the chance to engage with healthcare professionals. This interactive discussion allowed attendees to ask questions and gain valuable insights into maintaining good health.

Beyond the educational sessions, the event featured local vendors showcasing health-related products and services, further supporting the theme of wellness and healthy lifestyles.

The day emphasized physical and mental health while fostering a sense of community among attendees. Organizers expressed their commitment to continuing these efforts, recognizing the importance of health education and resources in promoting a healthier future for families in Nashville.

Overall, the event was a resounding success, highlighting the collaborative spirit of organizations dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the community.
