NASHVILLE, TN — Meharry’s student-run free clinic is now open and accepting patients at without charge. The 12 South Student-Run Community Clinic is run by dedicated Meharry student volunteers. The mission of the clinic is to address healthcare disparities in the Nashville community by increasing access to health care through the provision of free, high-quality care to underserved populations. Meharry students take this approach because the clinic was founded on the concept that access to health care is a fundamental human right that should not be deprived from any one.
The clinic is operated by Meharry student volunteers under the supervision of compassionate faculty physicians. This allows the clinic to serve as a clinical skills training ground for medical students seeking to develop their capability as a primary care specialist. The clinic provides weekly access to a primary care physician which includes physical exams, check-ups, sexually transmitted disease testing, pregnancy tests, and more. No insurance required.
The Student-Run free clinic is located at Metro General Hospital, 2nd Floor Pediatrics Clinic.
Open Thursdays 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

12 South student volunteers also engage the community through monthly outreach events. The students collaborate with local organizations to provide general health screenings to underserved populations that include blood pressure checks, blood glucose checks, and nutritional counseling. The next event will be on June 24th, 2017 from 12-3pm, at the Nashville Rescue Clinic on 1716 Rosa L. Parks Blvd.
