NASHVILLE –WeGo Public Transit is closing out 2023 strong with an increase in ridership. There were 1.8 million more rides on our services in comparison to last fiscal year. Additionally, WeGo Ride, an employer-sponsored program which provides employees an alternative to driving by riding the bus, increased by 25 percent.
“We are thankful for the strong support from our key stakeholders, partners and riders,” WeGo CEO Steve Bland said. “We look forward to building new partnerships as we continue to deepen our engagement and outreach within the Nashville community.”
Routes with the most ridership include 52 Nolensville Pike, 55 Murfreesboro Pike, and 56 Gallatin Pike.
“We are on the right track with WeGo’s upward trajectory in visibility, growth and community engagement,” Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell said. “I look forward to this continuing trend as we advance public transit goals for Nashville citizens.”
Routes which saw the greatest increase this year are 77 Thompson/Wedgewood and 79 Skyline.
Key projects for 2024 include the grand opening of the Dr. Ernest Rip Patton, Jr. North Nashville Transit Center on 26th Avenue and Clarksville Pike which will offer multiple bus bays to get across town. Riders will have convenient access citywide while saving time by not having to transfer downtown. The community will economically benefit with improved access to job opportunities along with workforce skills training for residents and more.
