NASHVILLE, Tenn. (TN Tribune) – Bowman Richards, owner and president of Nashville-based secure shredding company Richards & Richards, has been named president of the International Secure Information Governance & Management Association® (i-SIGMA®). Richards succeeds Brock Miller as president of the trade association, which enforces standards and ethical compliance for approximately 2,000 secure data destruction and information management service providers on six continents. He will serve as president for one year. Before his election as president, Richards served as president elect of i-SIGMA starting in 2021. In 2020, he became chair of i-SIGMA’s Conflict Resolution Committee (CRC) after serving as a member of the committee since 2018. He was also the international conference chair for the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID), now a part of i-SIGMA, in 2014 and served on the board of directors of Professional Records and Information Services Management (PRISM) International, also now a part of i-SIGMA, from 2017 to 2020. “I’m honored to accept this role with i-SIGMA, an association whose continued importance in our industry can’t be underestimated,” Richards said. “I look forward to continuing the legacy my predecessors have built and working to ensure i-SIGMA’s future success.” Richards has been a member of i-SIGMA or its predecessor organizations since 2008 and has earned the CSDS designation (Certified Secure Destruction Specialist). Richards & Richards has played a key role in the organization for decades, having been a member of i-SIGMA or its predecessor organizations since 1987. One of Richards’ primary responsibilities during his tenure will be leading the search for a successor to i-SIGMA CEO Bob Johnson, who recently announced that he is retiring at the end of 2023. Johnson is the founder of NAID, the world’s most prominent nonprofit data destruction industry organization, which merged with PRISM in 2018 to become i-SIGMA. “Bowman is a long-established, widely respected member of i-SIGMA, and has made countless important contributions over the years,” Johnson said. “I’m confident that our association will be in good hands with him as president.”
