NASHVILLE, TN — Neighborhood Health is offering both free flu shots and free COVID boosters to everyone at its Downtown Nashville clinic, with a special emphasis on vaccinating the homeless population. Supply of the new COVID booster is currently limited, so priority is being given to the most vulnerable individuals. Vaccinations are free for everyone, including those with health insurance and those without. Free flu and COVID vaccines will be available at other Neighborhood Health locations during special vaccination events and as they become more readily available.
Experts suggest getting the flu and COVID vaccines at the same time to save trips and scheduling headaches – plus, to build maximum immunity before the winter months when there is typically a spike in both illnesses. Everyone over the age of 6 months is encouraged to get a flu shot this year, unless certain underlying conditions or allergies exist, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “We hope that everyone in the community will protect themselves and their loved ones and schedule an appointment to be vaccinated,” said Brian Haile, CEO of Neighborhood Health. “There are no restrictions as far as income or other requirements: We simply want to keep our community safe by providing access and availability to these vaccinations.”
Uninsured adults have struggled to get the new COVID vaccine, which can cost more than $126 per dose. Now, clinics and pharmacies are finally getting doses they can administer to uninsured adults for free. Metro Public Health is offering appointments, and most Walgreen and CVS now offer the vaccine for free. Contact your local provider for specific details.
