MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — New and returning MTSU student veterans and their families are welcome to attend a “newcomers briefing” hosted by the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center.

The event, which is free and catered by Aramark, will be held starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, in the Tom H. Jackson Building’s Cantrell Hall, 628 Alma Mater Drive. Masks are recommended, but not required.

Organizers request new and returning student veterans and their families make their reservation by emailing Elizabeth Wilburn at Elizabeth.Wilburn@mtsu.edu.

“We are excited to welcome our new students and their families to campus,” said Hilary Miller, center director. “This is such a wonderful event. We get to meet, eat good barbecue and ensure everyone starts off on the right foot. The Daniels Center is all about military-connected students’ academic success.”

Miller and her staff are targeting new-to-MTSU student veterans and family members, but it is open to all student veterans and their families, she said.

Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Keith M. Huber, senior adviser for veterans and leadership initiatives, will speak during the event.

MTSU’s fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 22.
