Alpha Chi Chapter, Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporatedâ held its annual Dorothy Coley Edmond Scholarship Luncheon on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel, 2025 Rosa L. Parks Boulevard, Nashville, TN.

The chapter awarded two $3,000.00 scholarships to Tennessee State University (TSU) Senior Nursing Students, Yazmeen King and Alissa Sneed. Ms. King was home for the Thanksgiving holiday and was unable to attend. Ms. Sneed attended the Luncheon and expressed her appreciation for the scholarship and what it means to her. Ms. King sent a video expressing the same. Chairman Betty Wilson and Co-Chairman Bernice Barnes, along with the Scholarship Committee, planned an enjoyable afternoon with a delicious menu and jazz by the Victor Davis Jazz Ensemble. The chapter extends a special thank you to all who supported the scholarship fund through their attendance, the silent auction, and donation envelopes.

Sorority members brought socks for the homeless to the event, which were later taken to the Nashville Rescue Mission. This annual service project netted 410 pairs of socks for men, women, boys, and girls.

Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporatedâ is an organization of Registered Nurses and nursing students committed to providing “Service for Humanity”, the organization’s motto. The Sorority was founded on October 16, 1932 by Aliene Carrington Ewell and eleven other insightful RNs who envisioned an organization that would elevate, enhance, and empower the nursing profession and humankind.

The Luncheon is named for Dr. Dorothy Coley Edmond, who organized Alpha Chi Chapter on May 27, 1961 and later started the first Associates Degree Program at Tennessee State University in 1966. Dr. Edmond, along with Dr. Marian Gooding, started the Baccalaureate Nursing Program (BSN) at Tennessee State University in 1981. Dr. Edmond, who was the first director of the BSN Program and who touched the lives of thousands of students, died on October 18, 2006. Proceeds from the Luncheon are used to award scholarships to deserving Nursing students at TSU and other Middle Tennessee nursing programs.
